Learning the arc welding

So far, my work has been done with the torch. And I can honestly say many upcoming works will make the torch. But I've always been curious about the arc welding. Especially since the weld is instant because of 10000 degree heat. This is particularly useful in projects that take long time to finish with a flashlight as a construction welding table.

This last weekend I ventured to Port Freight to pick up their little 8 pounds converter welder. I have spent $200 but because I need a good autodarkening helmet, a chipping hammer and some magnets. I have received 2-year warranty just in case. Yes I know, many people like to give Chinese welders a bad rap. But let me say that this small welder is quite good considering money. It is not intended for the professional welder who performs the structural work, but for the purposes of art should be me fine. I use 6013 1/16 "electrodes at this time." I noticed that they are a little deeper and sometimes small joints I should go to them because the first time, it is by depositing really low flow. Civilized suggestion is appreciated.

I'm a little embarrassed show my efforts so far, but I'm in a separate post as I develop my skills. But for the moment, I am going to make an assessment of this technique. So, let me start with the pros of arc welding. One is that it is cheaper for equipment MIG and TIG welding. Secondly, the heat is instant and would be excellent for tack welding fittings and furniture that you end up with oxyacetylene metal. Thirdly, because you are not working with a flame heating, heat is very concentrated and warping is greatly reduced. Finally, this special welder I is very light and there is no gas gauges to monitor.

Now the second part of the assessment. Disadvantages or negative aspects. Arc welding is called stick that get stuck electrodes for welding work. This is particularly true of rusted metal with too low a parameter of the amp, and the end of your machine has melted flux impedes the circuit. Second drawback would be the power cord. You cannot use the extensions because they would reduce the output of your machine unless the extension cord is the same thickness or upper rope on the welding machine welding amp. As a result, I am limited to 5 feet withing my output until I'm electrical changes. And finally the stream. I want you must really wack the work with the hammer down the stream. How would you know if you really laid down a good weld?

In conclusion, taking the good with the evil, yet I more practice and become competent at it. The tool and technique will certainly find a use in my future work with my flame. I will be able too thick steel for my torch bevelling parts and ranges from a few passes with welding electrodes. My next article in the series of comparing different types of electrode arc welding.
